Hope you’ll revisit Designer in a bit and those tools will be available to you and you’ll find things much more enjoyable :. MattP Posted January 26, Whenever you place text along the inside of a path, you may notice that the reduction in space results in a reduction of space between the letters as well. Fortunately, this can be easily fixed. To adjust the spacing between the letters of your text, triple-click the text to select all of it, then hold Alt on your keyboard and use the left and right arrow keys to increase and decrease the spacing between the letters.

The left arrow reduces spacing between the letters, whereas the right arrow increases the spacing:. This may be required if you plan editing the vector document with another application at a later point. Finally, it should be noted that once you convert your text to curves, you can no longer edit it. Alternatively, you can also save a copy of the design with the text editable and one without.

William Cartwright Posted December 13, Posted December 13, I do not see this in Photo. It seems like something pretty basic that should be included in a vector program. I just switched from pc to mac; my old pc had Adobe Creative Suite, but I wasn’t too keen on repurchasing it again for mac, so I bought Affinity as an alternative. I mostly just do do gig poster designs, and event promo materials but it’s pretty useless to me if I can’t shape text.

I was under the impression that this program rivaled Illustrator, but from the lack of features I feel that I’m using a beta program that I have to pay for.

Welcome to Affinity Forums. I can understand your frustration with the lack of some basic features, but I also think it’s not fair to judge the program and call it a “beta” from just what’s missing. Affinity Designer is available as a trial, both in its commercial version MAS as well as in its beta counterpart, so everyone can try it, see what’s already included and if it fulfills their needs or not.

It is intended to be an alternative to Adobe Illustrator, but it was also launched just half an year ago. It can’t be compared to more than two decades of development Illustrator has over its shoulders yet. We are still building its foundations, and some features weren’t ready for its first release.

This doesn’t mean we don’t recognize their importance. If you check our roadmap , you can see that both text on a path and a corner tool are already there to be implemented as soon as time permits. Both will also be provided as free updates along a host of other features and improvements you can see there.

You will notice a blinking cursor that appears on the path indication that you can begin typing. At this point you can add your own stylings. Simply triple-click the text to select it, then choose your font and size using the settings in the toolbar just above the artboard.

When you first curve text with Affinity Designer, the text will be placed either along the inside or the outside of the path. This depends entirely on what part of the path you initially clicked on. This will reposition your text from the outside of the path to the inside of the path. This works in reverse as well. See pinned thread in the Questions forum. Any shape or curve no matter the method I use the artistic text cursor doent change to squiggly line.

Green highlight lines pop up but text still goes straight across. The cursor should change to a “T” with a wave line below. Click and start typing. Additionally you can also use a shape as a text frame. To convert text to curves, select it with the Move Tool and click on Convert to Curves button on the context toolbar” None of these work. I have follow instructions to the letter, watch several different methods and videos.
